Roundarch reached the visual design portion of the CDC project in 2002, and I was dreading it. Wouldn't you? The client was government-slow, government-bloated, government-inept, I was told. And the project was colossal.

It turned out only the latter was true, and even that wasn't such a huge concern as our information architects had done such an awesome job in mapping out the parameters of the site. The CDC has a very smart bunch of people, and while the meetings were huge, nothing got out of hand. It was a pleasure working with them, especially so given the socially responsible nature of the project.

The result is a simple site with a focus on consistent, well-planned branding that addressed the organisation's need to clarify their role, coupled with accessibility to full government levels. Sturdy style guides and templates were created to assist the various internal departments in creating assets in order to harmonise their communications. It'll take some time to roll out the new design across the whole site, as a number of monstrous databases have to be consolidated, but they're getting there.
